Please, forward this information to your own unique circle of Pike Brothers, and encourage them to attend. Only 600 Brothers receive the monthly newsletter, so don’t assume your Pledge Brothers know about this event. Please spread the word. We’re not getting any younger and life happens fast, so come join your Brothers for a weekend of fun.
From the Thursday evening mixer at Bowden’s through Sunday’s departure breakfast we guarantee you will relive old memories and make new ones.
Call me with any questions and thank you for encouraging all the Delta Lambda Brothers to attend.
We’ve planned some awesome group events, and we also left time for you to get away and spend time with your inner circle of Pike friends. Andy Miller has made special arrangements for hotel rates at the Indigo, but for Brothers on a budget there are tons of inexpensive hotels in Tallahassee since this isn’t football season. We probably won’t repeat this kind of a reunion for another 4 or 5 years, so don’t miss out.
You became a Pike for a great reason, so come join us and relive the best of your college years.
Please send me a text or email now to let us know you’re coming. We can let other Brothers know and that will encourage them to join us. Send names to [email protected] or text to 305-776-3221.

Support the Old Guard of Delta Lambda!
Preserving our Legacy; Securing the Future
The Old Guard is Delta Lambda’s Alumni Annual Fund. Your gift goes toward strengthening the Bonds among alumni, enriching both the alumni and undergraduate Delta Lambda experience. Volunteer dues are $100 or more annually. Some Alumni choose to give more. These funds underwrite special projects like the Military Plaque, the monthly e-newsletter, the Delta Lambda website, monthly meetings with Alumni Advisors and Chapter officers, alumni reunions and more.
Please use the secure link above, or the link on the Delta Lambda Website. Or, some donors prefer to write checks. Please make payable to The Old Guard, and send to Charlie Barnes, 1490 Saint Charles Place, Tallahassee Florida, 32308
We’re always gratified by the response to the monthly newsletters. And we are especially gratified by the generosity expressed by two large gifts to The Old Guard.
First, thank you to Steve Lowski ’84 for his gift of $2,000. ““I am always interested in learning more about the future of the house. It’s my pleasure to support the amazing efforts by the local Alumni in support of the Chapter. For the Legends Reunion, I am rallying all the Fall 84-86 for this opportunity. I’ll be bringing Scott Roix ‘84 and Sean Carbonell ’86.
In the interim, I dropped a donation in mail today to catch me up on the Old Guard & The Sembler Society. It’s my pleasure and an honor to be a Delta Lambda Pike!” [email protected]
Next, Mike Lait ’78 demonstrates his loyalty to PiKA and Delta Lambda by driving down from his home in Enterprise, Alabama every month to join attend the Monthly Alumni/Undergraduate Luncheon. In addition to contributing his time and leadership, Mike has pledged $1,000 to The Old Guard in 2025. We are deeply grateful to Steve and Mike for their loyalty and generosity in supporting important programs to sustain excellence in Delta Lambda. [email protected]
Contributions to the Old Guard may be made by credit card through a secure website, or, if you prefer to send a check, please make payable to The Old Guard of Delta Lambda and send to Charlie Barnes / 1490 Saint Charles Place / Tallahassee, FL 32308
Our next Alumni Advisors/Undergraduate Leadership Luncheon will be on Wednesday, February 5th, 2025.
Our regular monthly meetings are now at Madison Social, in College Town. The University Center Club/Osceola Grill has been permanently closed.
Chapter Advisor John Peacock ’01 will host and chair the meeting, beginning at noon and concluding by 1:00 PM. All alumni are welcome to attend.

From left: Khuong, Troy Mutter ’01, Andrew Pangle ’01 and Austin LaRoche ’01. |
Khuong Phan ’01 writes, “We all took a road trip up the Pacific Coast Highway in 2013, right before Austin had his son Xavier…Now, Austin LaRoche ‘01, one of our Re-Founding Brothers, has lost everything in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.” Khuong says a Go-Fund-Me account has been set up to help Austin, his wife and family recover the best they can. Please see the link below. Phi Phi K A. |
“This morning, Anna Johnson, her husband Austin LaRoche ‘01, and their sons Xavior and Tyson lost their home to the devastating Eaton fire. While they were able to evacuate safely, they had only moments to gather a few important items: some documents, their passports, and a single change of clothes…. As they begin to cope with the loss of their home and everything they own, we want to rally around them in their time of need. We’re setting up this GoFundMe to help Anna, Austin, and their boys with essentials like food, clothing, and temporary shelter while they navigate these uncertain times and plan their next steps.” |
A pair of Delta Lambdas were honored during the National Football Awards Show, December 12, 2024. It could be argued that our men, Mastromanno and Fitzgerald, got robbed. The reality of a 2-10 season probably entered into voters’ minds. But each of our men had the best national record at their respective positions.
![]() |
Alex Mastromanno ’20 finished second in the 2024 Ray Guy Award for the nation’s best punter. Mastromanno’s average was 49.3 yards, best in the country. The winner was from USC, and his average was less: 48.5 yards. Alex was named First Team AFCA All-America. |
Ryan Fitzgerald ’19 finished second in the 2024 Lou Groza Award for the nation’s best kicker. This year’s winner was a kicker from the University of Louisiana (the ‘Rajin Cajuns’, not LSU). The winner made 93% of kicks this season. Fitzgerald made 100% of his kicks. Ryan was named First Team Walter Camp All-America. |

Wayne Daniel Currie ‘66, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on December 27, 2024, in San Antonio. He served in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1990, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Karen Currie. His obituary lists Pi Kappa Alpha. |
Bob Tunkel ’66 writes, “My roommate and pledge brother Wayne (Spiderman) Currie has entered Chapter Eternal.” Bob sent a photo of his 1966 pledge paddle with Wayne’s signature as “Spiderman”. |
![]() |
Rich Wall ‘66 said, “Wayne was a Pike pledge classmate and Brother of mine, as well as a fellow Air Force ROTC, Arnold Air Society, and Business School member. He was always a cheerful guy who enjoyed a good laugh. He was a wonderful “Brother” in every sense of the word. I remember watching him run the 440 at FSU track meets – smooth and powerful. His obit is stocked with achievements I would have expected of him. In the Bonds, Brother Wayne!”
Dave Frew ’66 writes, “Bob and Brothers. I remember the first day I arrived on campus in 1964 and being on a track and field scholarship, I was assigned to a housing dorm room in Smith Hall. I walked into the room and sitting on his bed was a tall. gangly fellow by the name of Wayne Currie. He also was recruited by coach Mike Long to compete in the open 440 event. Wayne and I became the best of friends, both pledging the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity together. I have wonderful memories of Wayne and all of the track meets we competed in together. When running on the back stretch, Wayne had an incredible stride and was very smooth and fast. He was the anchor of our 440 relay team, usually making up the yardage the rest of us gave up. Ha. He was a great athlete and now after reading about his post FSU military accomplishments, I am not the least bit surprised. Phi Phi K A Brother. I look forward to seeing you again.”
Dave Frew [email protected] 404.275.1319 (cell)
From Jack McMullen ’64: “What a great tribute to brother Wayne by Brother “Silly Frew”……..In the mid 80’s I had learned that Wayne Currie was stationed here in Tampa @ MacDill Air Force Base…..But before I could arrange a get-together meeting, Wayne was transferred out…And that was the last time I heard about Wayne, who has now entered Chapter Eternal. It is amazing how much we learn about the careers/life of our brothers, as we have to wait for an obituary to learn the good things accomplished in life………🤷♂️
In the bonds, Jack McMullen ’64
Dave Orr ’62 wrote, “So many pleasant memories! Watching Wayne down the backstretch and Silly (Frew) gliding over the hurdles. Remember when Rocco (Jim Montano ’64) and I roomed across the back hall from them! Can you imagine having Frew and Rocco in the same atmosphere all the time? So many fun times!! I can now confess my new “golf” shoes episode – came back to the house early one semester. In their room was an old pair of brown and black brogans under the bunk bed with the soles torn up and the heels very worn out – obviously thrown away. However, the tops were okay and with some polish and replaces soles/heels would make a great looking pair of golf shoes!! Well, the fit was perfect and the rest is ancient history. Now Dave, can you tell me: were they yours, or Wayne’s shoes???(Ha-Ha)”
